Las Vegas Outfit Ideas
Woohoo! This weekend I am headed to Las Vegas to attend WWDMagic – one of the world’s largest fashion trade shows of the year. WhyTheHeck would a DIY Blogger attend a fashion convention?
Some of you may or may not know, I co-own a boutique, Spruced Cooperative, in Edmond, Oklahoma.
I have not talked about my journey as a boutique owner much here on my blog. Why that is? I am not sure.
Something about it feels like a smarmy door-to-door vacuum salesman trying to get you to buy stuff from me.
Which makes me feel about as filthy as a spammer, wearing 3 day old underwear, eating corn chips on my couch.
Let me back this train up even further.
In college I was a commercial teller at a local bank and I earned a trip to Mexico for being the top sales referring employee that year. When I was told I had won (or technically, earned) the trip I was in total shock.
Had they made a mistake and picked the wrong person? There must have been a glitch in the system because I was NOT A SALES PERSON.
Apparently this was a lesson to my 20-year-old self that doing the right thing for people sometimes results in them using your product/service/vacuum/whatever.
I am not a sales person BUT I am a person who loves to help and serve people. Regardless if it’s my business’s customers or a fellow entrepreneur, creative, or a customer at a bank, or a random autism mom in tears I have never met before in my life and stopping to hug her, having a servant’s heart is something God has engrained in me.
I’m not saying this so you think I am a saint or that it has always served me well or so you will think I am an awesome person because I screw up just as much as the next person.
But this is me. Acts of service is my love language and truly brings me joy. It leads me into some very interesting situations, some good and some not so good, and some I never thought I would be in, like owning a boutique!
You have been formally warned. This blog is not a niche blog. It’s not just about DIY or interior design. It’s about my journey as an interior design lover, decorator, stylist, mom, friend, spouse, and wearer of 3 day old underwear (jk).
WHEW. That felt good and was certainly not the direction I thought this post was going. But it did and I’m glad I went with it.
If you’ve kept up with me this far, thank you.
Now let’s get back to V-to-the-Egas.
Myself, my business partner Ali from Profile Concierge Hair, and our stylist/friend/some one who helps us with buying for the store to make sure I don’t order 50 different black and white striped shirts, Style Coach Patty Rankin, are leaving on Sunday for MAGIC in Vegas.
You may remember these blog post about Patty Rankin as my stylist and someone who is amazing at styling the everyday woman regardless of shape, size, season of life, or budget. She is wildly talented and it definitely helps us reflect in our store’s brand.
We will be there for 48 hours and it will be action packed with seeing the newest upcoming trends for Fall/Winter 2018 and Spring/Summer 2019 in over 1 million square feet of fashion and gifts at MAGIC in Las Vegas.
I wanted to share with you my packing list and outfits for each day and occasion of the event.
Don’t worry friends, this isn’t turning into a style blog. More like how I try to hide my muffin top and not look like an old lady in a swanky venue like The Cosmopolitan, where we are staying for the weekend.
We decided to stay at The Cosmopolitan because it is an upscale hotel and in my opinion, THE place to be on the strip. Their rooms are residential-styled living spaces with private terraces and breathtaking skyline views.
With 14 restaurants, an unrivaled pool district, the Cosmopolitan is the most bang for our buck during our short stay.
Because of all of the amenities and things to do in one hotel we will have little need to leave the hotel in-between working sessions because there isn’t a more fabulous place to be in Vegas than The Cosmopolitan. (IMHO)
Day 1: Travel Wear
Comfiness is top priority while traveling but since we are hitting the ground running as soon as we land I wanted to amp up my airplane look just a bit. I want to look and feel my best when we walk into the hotel.
Under each picture I will link to each item. These are affiliate links. There is also nothing mentioned that will break the bank but will be items I will use over and over again. I am sorta anti-one-time-use wear when it comes to clothes
It should also be noted my tried and true travel bag is actually a diaper bag I bought at The Kate Spade Outlet in Vegas from a different trip in 2016.
I have used it every single day for work and it’s still in great shape – and no one can tell it’s a diaper bag! A cute diaper bag from Kate Spade must be code for “ultra durable” because it has been a staple for me on the daily ever since.
Also, can we get a moment of silence for the Sam Edelman Tassel Sandals. They are a little bit “extra” but that’s my style and I own it.
Do you love them or hate them? I would love to know.
For dinner and a show I am wearing a tropical romper with espadrille wedges but will most likely change into flats after dinner. Ain’t nobody got time for sore feet. Especially with one million square feet to tackle the next day.
We have had a hard time deciding on what show to see because
1.) The disappointment of realizing we are missing Amy Schumer’s comedy performance at The Cosmopolitan 2 days before our arrival is a real bummer.
2.) I have seen almost all of the Cirque Du Soleil shows except The Michael Jackson one and The Beatles Show. I have heard they are both amazing but I want to mix it up a little bit. #firstworldprobs
What is your favorite Vegas show you have attended? I would love to hear!
DAY 2: WWDMAGIC Fashion Trade Show
Here is the day we have been prepping for: WWDMAGIC! The mecca of fashion, meets lifestyle, meets on-trend, meets the most shopping you will ever do in one day. Like I said: it covers ONE MILLION SQUARE FEET between The Las Vegas Convention Center and The Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
Comfort is key here so I chose The Adidas Superstar Tennis Shoes with Cloudform Insoles to help me not hobble out of the building when the day is over. I will probably slip a pair of flip flops in my backpack purse just so my feet can have some variation during the day. It’s a fashion trade show so, yes, fashion is important, but so are my feet. I will feel #sorrynotsorry for anyone I spy sporting a wedge or anything resembling a heel that day.
LOW KEY = EXHAUSTED DINNER NIGHT
After MAGIC ends at 7pm we are going to be BEAT. If we can manage to leave our hotel and not order room service we will probably opt for a casual dinner out and some Netflix and chill in our hotel rooms to recoup from the day’s activities.
DAY 3: POOLSIDE & MY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Poolside is my most dreaded look. I just recuperated from Gall Bladder Surgery so I am still bloated and am currently carrying around about 30 extra pounds. How is a mom gut supposed to feel comfortable with all the cool kids hanging out at the famous Vegas poolside day club parties.
Easy: Pick a different pool to hang out at! There are two other pools to choose from and from researching them they both sound muffin top friendly. I didn’t invest a lot in my swimsuit or cover up ($30 for BOTH) because I hate shopping for swimsuits and I hate wearing them even more.
It’s my vacay and I’m not going to let a few extra pounds ruin it. It’s my birthday and our only day to relax and gosh darn it, I will enjoy it!
Day 4: FLIGHT HOME
Lastly, the flight home from Vegas is focus on comfort, sunburned, and slightly hung over, all rolled into one 2-hour flight. Yoga pants, a sleeping mask, and a Turkish Towel will be by my side during the entire flight.
PSA: A Turkish Towel is one the THE BEST INVESTMENTS! It can be used as a ultra absorbent towel, a scarf, blanket, pillow, baby blanket, couch throw, all while looking stylish. Tell the flight attendant no thank you when she offers you the obligatory in-flight blanket. To keep it ultra boujee I will spray my turkish towel with my Beverly & 3rd Air & Linen Spray in Lavender and Sage scent to keep my flight as spa-like and tranquil as it can be. Of course, I’m bringing an extra turkish towel and linen spray for my bestie and business partner, Ali, so we can relax together and get a little shut eye before headed home!
So that’s it! If you have been struggling to pack to a trip when your feeling down about your body image or just happen to be turning one year older during your trip embrace the FUN, even though it’s work, and I am committing to make this a short, yet unforgettable trip with amazing friends, food, and atmosphere! Make sure you follow us on Spruced Cooperative’s Facebook Page where we will be giving our upcoming Fashion Forecast (for everyday women not models…) via Facebook Live.
We will also be documenting our trip via Spruced’s Instagram Stories to hang out with us there too!
T Minus 2 days until we leave! Eeeek! Share your best Vegas Travel advice for our community via the comments! An angel earns her wings every time someone shares their favorite hack. I just made that up but it might be true.
See you in Sin City!
