One of my favorite techniques is painting furniture in layers! I don’t often take on custom furniture makeovers but when this client sent me some inspiration photos and pictures of her existing piece of furniture I couldn’t possibly say no. The project, although would be a lot of work, also proved to be a lot of fun, so I said yes and her and her poor husband lugged this beast of a media cabinet to me a few weeks ago.
Here is the piece before I took a paint brush to it. Lots of awesome detail – she admitted she was never in love with the piece but bought it in a rush to furnish her home.
I painted the entire piece Turquoise, distressed it, and sealed it in Heirloom Traditions Dark Umber Soft Wax.
I also gave the details a touch of glam with gold.
I think it’s safe to say this piece of furniture will never be the same again, don’t you think?
I love it when clients go BOLD because I can only paint so much furniture white before I feel the neutrals sucking the creativity from my brain. Ok, that was a little dramatic, painting with whites all the time isn’t that bad – but throwing in a fun piece like this every once in a while is good for the soul.
What do you think of this makeover? If this piece goes missing before my client picks it up don’t look at me.
