This week I have been hustling to turn in my design board for the 2017 OKC Orchestra League Symphony Show House. Each year designers in the OKC Metro Area apply to design a room in the Show House and I cautiously decided to apply this year.
All of the major furniture stores in town design rooms and I wondered if the Orchestra League would let a blogger try their hand at designing a room.
Guess what? They loved the idea and accepted my application. A blogger has never participated in this project and I am honored to be the flagship one!
So what is the Symphony Show House? It is a fundraising project for the Oklahoma City Orchestra League where the use of a house is donated and redecorated and then open to the public for viewing. This year’s home is located at 4808 Rose Rock Drive in OKC. It’s an amazing property with a 5,000 square foot house and a 5,000 square foot cabana house. If you want to see the house before the designers get their hands on it you can attend the preview party this Sunday, February 29th from 3pm – 5pm.
Tickets are $25 at the door. (You can follow the Show House on FB HERE)
The room I am designing is upstairs in the cabana house. Here is the BEFORE:
I am going to transform the space into a creative escape and art studio. This project is generously sponsored by Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore & At Home Stores! I am so excited to showcase these two companies in this design!
I have already perused the aisles of At Home for the perfect accessories for the room.
Since this is an artist’s retreat I will be showcasing art from local Oklahoma City Artist Piper Bridwell in the room. It’s going to be an awesome collaboration and her art is AH-Maze.
In true Refunk My Junk fashion I will be using lots of vintage and upcycled elements, all sources from Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore. If you have a furniture you need to get rid of Habitat’s ReStore is my top choice to do so! I love their mission and if you have been around here for any amount of time or attended one of my workshops you already know I am a SUPER FAN.
I think I should get a t-shirt.
I mean, look at all of the awesome stuff they have sourced for me the first day I delivered my wish list to them.
That light fixture really has my armpits sweating.
I can’t wait to document this room’s transformation!
What do you think? Is it possible I can transform this room into a modern vintage artist retreat?
