Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paints Dining Room Table Reveal {before & after}
I am so excited to reveal my dining room table makeover using the Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paints I got in my retailers kit last week!
My retailer’s kit arrived last Tuesday and as soon as my little guy went down for a nap that day, I busted it open, and started painting my dining room table.
I had only used Milk Paint one other time, but I was going to “go big or go home” with my dining room table project!
Here is my dining room table before it’s Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint Makeover:
I didn’t sand or prime, I just cleaned it with Simple Green to prep and that’s it!
I used Iron Stone, which is a bright white color, and I was in lurve as soon as the first coat went on. It just chips and flakes in the most inpredictable areas, giving it a naturally worn and weathered look. The flaking doesn’t look forced, like some pieces tend to look when I go overboard on sanding. It just does it for you.
I LOVE THAT!
Here is some of it’s chippy goodness up close and personal.
And look at those legs! Woo Hoo! (I’m such a furniture perve..)
Ok, let’s get to the final reveal, shall we?
Doesn’t it look fabulous compared to that old $125.00 Craigslist find?
I finished it off with the Miss Mustard Seed Wax. It’s got almost no odor and no warning labels. And I loved the finish it creates! It felt like a commercially made piece of furniture… Perfection! But I did let it cure for a few days and then used two coats of CeCe Caldwell’s Durable Satin Finish to seal it. Since it’s a dining room table, and I have a toddler, I use a lot of Clorox Wipes on this table. Satin Finish is like my insurance policy on the wax.
Enough about all the details. Let’s look at the before & after again!

Don’t you just want to come over for coffee? Or better yet, a glass of wine?
And can you tell I am using the photography and photo styling skills I learned at the Haven 2012 Blog and DIY Conference?

I feel so fancy!
Now it’s your turn. What are you most excited about in Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint Line? The Chippy Goodness? The gorgeous colors? More painting options that don’t require sanding?

LOVE this!! I can’t wait to try out this milk paint. Beautiful job, Allison!!
All of it!! Can’t wait till I can buy it online. Love the blog..just found you! Does it chip like that by itself when you paint it? If so, I am even more excited!
That looks so good and I can’t wait to try it myself.
LOVE this! What a difference the paint made. I’ll have to give milk paint a try.
This came out gorgeous. I love it. I came across your post via Miss Mustard Seed. Do you need to do that extra coating or is the wax enough? Can’t wait to try the milk paint!
I’ve been waiting to try it on my steps. Hope it becomes available soon!
you used the varnish over the wax coat? always heard, not to put any sealer over wax cause it wouldn’t be compatible, altho shellac can be used if the wax is mostly cleaned off.
Can’t wait to try the paint, love the color on the chairs.
Looks like you are already a pro at using Milk Paint… have to remember to us the satin finish on the next table project I do.
great table! i love milk paint! i just did a black bed for my boys room in it
Isn’t it awesome! I just love the natural, worn, chippy effect it has!
