I have recently traveled to the Mecca of online rug purchasing and I came back with tons of living room ideas and a new rug! And by traveled, I mean visiting the Rugs USA website, and browsing for hours on end at the gorgeous rug buffet they have to offer.
One of my New Years resolutions was to whip my home into better decorated shape since it has been neglected for the past two years while I have been focusing on my business. And with a baby now on the way I have been feeling like I won’t have a moment to dedicate to my casa once my little bundle of joy arrives.
This weekend I completed another task on my way to achieving my 2014 Home Goals. A new area rug for my living room! After investing in new drapes and pillows that final item to tie it all together was a new area rug. Rugs USA offered to let me chose a rug from their website and it just so happened I already had some in mind from their website anyway. A few short days later it was delivered to my door, safely wrapped, and ready for me to unroll and use. It was like Christmas in May when it arrived!
My criteria for a rug was as follows.
1. It had to be fairly large – I didn’t want a lily pad of a rug like a had last time. See below.
2. The dominant color could not be white. Little boys and the color white are not friends.
3. It had to be affordable.
4. It had to be easy to clean.
The Tuscan Nadra Trellis Rug in Navy met all of the items on my wish list. I purchased the 7’6 x 9’6 and it was large enough for my entire living room. I decided not to buy the rug pad, even though the site says it is recommended, to see if I could get away with not using it. And so far I haven’t needed it.
The rug has been super easy to clean and has even had some Oklahoma red dirt smooshed into it a few times. I used this all-natural cleaner I bought at SAM’s a few months ago and the stains have easily come out. I also called my neighbor, who owns a professional carpet cleaning business ( Oklahoma’s Finest Carpet Cleaning (405) 513-5234 – seriously call him – he does an awesome job and is much more affordable than Stanley Steamer!) and asked him about removing dog pee because we have a 17 year old geriatric dog. Initially my husband thought we should Scotch Guard the rug to protect it, but after talking to my neighbor he said that dog pee is too acidic to hold up to Scotch Guard and we just needed to clean it with a 1/3 Vinegar and 2/3 water solution. So far it’s cleaned up the few accidents our dog has had on the rug. The rug is made out of wool and is so thick the pee barely penetrates the surface anyway.
Rugs USA also has awesome sales – this rug was originally $611.00 but after the 60% off coupon code it made the price tag only $244.00 plus free shipping.
Look at what a huge difference the rug makes in the room. Here’s the “before” of our old rug. See what I mean about lily pad?
And here it our rug in it’s new home. There have already been lots of wrestling matches had here.
I know I am dwelling on the past but I can’t get over this transformation!
Can you believe the difference a rug makes? What are your must-haves in a rug?
