There are so many ways to distress furniture. You can sand. You can wet distress. You can beat it up with a metal chain to feel better after a bad day. Today I am going to show you how to distress furniture and get a chippy finish with CeCe Caldwell’s Paints.
All you need is a small jar of Vaseline. I purchased this for $1.00 at the Dollar Store. I love a tone-on-tone effect so I painted this end table in CeCe Caldwell’s Kentucky Mint first. Then I dabbed Vaseline here, there, and everywhere, considering where the piece of furniture would naturally wear and little fingers would grab on a daily basis.
For the second coat I chose CeCe Caldwell’s Nantucket Spray. Since CeCe’s paints dry into a matte finish you can tell where the greasy Vaseline had been placed underneath. I simply lightly sanded to remove the Vaseline.
The paint just peels off where the Vaseline is applied, giving you a chippy finish that can be difficult to create with your own hand.
I created lots of texture with my paint and the chippy old look gives it an authentic feel with a modern color twist.
Ugh. I love the hardware on this piece.
PS: It is for sale at Showplace Market if you want to take it to it’s forever home!
