With Pantone announcing Greenery as 2017’s Color of the Year, green paint colors and organic inspired hues are everywhere. I have a beloved client who is expecting a baby boy and asked me to paint a Craigslist find changing table for her nursery. I don’t do a lot of custom work but Leslie always has the funnest projects with bold color choices – I can never say no to her! This time her green paint color choice was no different!
You can see another fun piece of I have painted for Leslie here.
After much texting back and forth on different changing table options she settled on this sweet dresser with the most unique Paul Revere scene carved into the top drawer.
Leslie requested I paint the dresser in Balsam by Behr in Semi Gloss. She had already painted an accent wall in the nursery with black and white strips and the ceiling in Balsam.
To be honest it has been YEARS since I have used Latex Paint on a project, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be because I primed it in Ultra Guard Primer.
Leslie loves to add a little bling in her home ( a woman after my own heart!) so she requested some gold to be added to the Paul Revere carving and some of the detail.
My style is a little Zsa Zsa Gabor meets Joanna Gaines and I was happy to make her vision come to life!
I applied gold leaf variegated flakes in a dry brushing technique to make the gold leaf look less patchy and more naturally worn through the green painted finish.
If you learn more from seeing the process in action I documented the process on a Facebook Live for you. It was also my secret revolt to the Kardashian Awards.
Perfectly worn golden goodness.
I can’t wait for Leslie to welcome her new arrival and I hope this changing table will give her a little smile during those tiring early infant days.
PS: Leslie was smart and found a changing table that has removable edges so they can be removed and used as a dresser when the baby gets older. I did the same thing, using a dresser as a changing table, for Shepherd’s nursery. He is almost 3 and it’s still going strong!
What do you think about the green color trend? Green is my favorite color so I’m too biased of a source to ask. I want to know what you think!
