You know what one of the funnest parts of my job is? Playing with new products before they hit the market. The opportunity to be a brand ambassador for Heirloom Traditions Paint & Certified Retail Trainer for Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint means I get a lot of fun stuff in the mail to play with!
A few weeks ago I got the new Oxidized Patina Furniture Wax from Heirloom Traditions and the UPS man thought I was nutso because I basically tackled him as he came through the door.
Oxidized Patina Furniture Wax is made to mimic the look of the bluish hue nature creates on crusty, worn, and weathered copper.
I counln’t wait to play with it. I couldn’t make up my mind what color I wanted to use first, so using sample boards, I played around with a few different looks.
I painted my first board in Black Bean using a stippling technique and then finished it in Oxidized Patina Furniture Wax.
I then painted my second board in Mocha and finished it in Oxidized Patina.
To create an even more copper effect I painted another board in Mocha, sealed it in Copper Penny top coat, and then used the Oxidized Patina over that. I don’t have any pictures but I made a quick video to show you how it turned out.
In the words of Rachael Ray “YUMMO!!!” I think the Copper Penny + Oxidized Patina combo was my fave.
Lastly, I used Thunderous with the wax.
People LOVE Turquoise but are sometimes afraid of an entire piece of furniture painted in it.
This might be a way to dip your home’s toe in the turquoise painted pond.
It’s subtle but still makes a statement.
So I have to know. Which color combo did you like the best? Mocha, Black Bean, or Thunderous? Leave a comment and let me know!
PS: I do not have Oxidized Patina in my retail partner stores in Oklahoma yet (I am placing an order today!) but you can order via my online shopping cart here or find your local Heirloom Tradition’s Paint retailer here.
And if you paint something in it, PUHLEASE for the love, send me a picture.
Love the patina wax! I too love painting with that color paint but don’t very often because it is so bold. I like the mocha best.
I like the black bean w/ oxidized. Beautiful!
I love the black and the gray Color with the patina wax the best. Going to have to try.
The black bean
Black bean is my favorite. Do you just apply with a cloth?
I like applying it with a brush because I feel like a rag soaks up a lot of product.
Love the black bean. Would this work directly over top of a dark finished dresser, rather than flat paint? Or would I need to paint first?
This is nice BUT its WAX–so what happens during care of the product/piece? doesn’t this color wear off with cleanings? HOW can you seal it???
I was wondering the same thing Alea.
I just painted a chair black to go with my new furniture. This might be stunning. Is it available in Canada? Thanks!
I just painted a chair black to go with my new furniture. Is this available in Canada? I think it would be awesome in the chairs detailing.

Love it! I’ve painted so many pieces of furniture, but I haven’t done anything with an oxidized patina look. I’m going to have to try it:)
It’s super fun!
Black bean , was the best !! The contrast with the two colours was fantastic
Thunderous
Ok stupid question, is this on metal or wood, I am just a beginner at painting so I am very green to terms . Love your stuff !!
Do you prefer the liquid wax or the gel wax? Also, what do you use to seal the gel wax?
Black bean is just what I’m looking for with the oxidize. But how to seal? This is my colors for dining room set I found at Goodwill.
Haven’t tried those products yet, but I am working with Modern Masters Metal Effects rust. Just discovered these types of finishes.
I like the Thunderous with the patina finished best but the black bean would be second choice.
I purshases the patina gel wax and it was not the consistency you claim to have used. I bought it and it does not have that consistency, why? Did you add something? I feel lied to.
I recently did my new bedroom furniture with a different product between rustoleum charcoal and then I drybrushed copper paint here n there for highlights and finished it with an oxidized like liquid wax.
It came out awesome! these pictures dont do it justic. I wish i could share one here.
