Sometimes I tend to overthink a project.
I will toss and turn all night long coming up with a masterpiece plan to create something over the top for you guys.
But today I just picked up a brush and started painting.
Just whatever my creative little heart desired I did.
No steps in mind.
No final outcome to expect.
Taking this approach scares me just a little.
Even for my left brained mind.
My first attempt to revive this dresser was to seal the entire thing in Hemp Oil, hoping it would bring back the wood’s original luster.
But there were watermarks and damage on the top that even Hemp Oil couldn’t resuscitate.
You can see my hemp oil attempt in this picture. The left side is slightly darker than the right.
I also hated the hardware so I scratched the entire idea and decided to paint it.
I then applied a wash over the entire piece in Repose Gray and then dry brushed the detail in Thunderous.
I know this isn’t my boldest creation – like this dresser that had mostly mixed reviews. People are either in the LOVED IT or HATED IT camp.
I am trying to stop micromanaging my furniture painting process.
This piece was a good start.
I am so curious your approach to painting furniture?
Are you an
a.) fly by the seat of your pants while painting ?
b.) Let the piece inspire you?
c.) Have a definite design plan plan in mind before you even pick up your paint brush?
Leave a comment and let me know your process!
