5 Minutes + $5.00 = Grandparents Day Gift

grandparents craft header

Grandparents Day is just around the corner, Sunday September 9th.  Here is a super cute, fast, and affordable craft your little one (or even older one) can make for that special Nanny and Pappy in their life.  We made this little crafty craft to thank my Mom (or Nanny as Axton as deemed her) for babysitting Axton for me 2 days each week this summer.  I would have never have been able to quit my job without her help.

Here are the supplies you will need to create your own Grandparent piece of art:

A small canvas: I got mine from Hobby Lobby for $1.50

Finger Paints..

A few photos printed off your home printer on regular paper.

haiku or poem that you can think of off the top of your head.

Modge Podge

Scrapbook Paper

A few scrapbook stickers if you really want to get fancy.

First we started off with a small blank canvas from Hobby Lobby and Eco-Friendly finger paints I got in my Citrus Lane subscription box a few months ago.  You know I love me some Eco-Friendly paints.

Then, I had my lovely crafting prodigy, Axton, paint the canvas.

His dad thinks he is going to be a basketball star, but I prefer to think he will go the artsy route, play the guitar, and attend a performing arts prep school.  We shall see.

Here, he is contemplating where he will draw his inspiration from…

Once his masterpiece was complete, I painted a brown border around the edges, just to fancy it up a bit.

I printed a pic off of my iPhone on my regular old printer with plain printer paper, came up with a little ditty of a poem, and printed that onto some scrapbooking paper.

I cut them out.

And Modge Podged them onto the scrapbook paper and onto the canvas.

I did use fancy scissors on parts of it.  Just to jazz it up.

I added the handprint because it was looking a little bare.

I added a few scrapbooking stickers I had laying around too.  I am a “more is more” kind of gal.  I then placed it on an easel so she can place it on her desk at school (she is a 2nd grade school teacher).

Now, our Nanny can look at her grandson’s masterpiece and remember what a fun summer they had together!

We love you Nanny!

What are you planning for Grandparents Day?  A craft? A home cooked meal?  A day where you don’t ask your mom to babysit for you?
